Market Report Description

The Latin America, Middle East and Africa Ultra-Mobile Devices Market would witness market growth of 14.9% CAGR during the forecast period (2022-2028).

An ultra-mobile PC (UMPC) is a small-form-factor variant of a pen computer, a type of laptop whose specifications were released by Microsoft and Intel in the spring of 2006. Sony had already made an attempt in this way with the Vaio U series in 2004. UMPCs are lighter than subnotebooks, with a TFT display spanning 12.7 to 17.8 cm diagonally, and are controlled with a stylus or through touchscreen like tablet PCs. There is a very slight difference between subnotebooks and ultra-mobile PCs. Linux-based standard PCs or an adapted version of Microsoft's tablet PC OS were the first-generation UMPCs.

Any software built for the Windows XP platform would operate on UMPCs with installed Windows XP, although the compact form factor often necessitates certain interface adjustments. The conventional Windows XP interface is the standard. However, the Touch Pack Interface gives the user the option of using an interface that is better suited to the compact form factor. Many UMPCs lack a real keyboard due to their small size, however, the Touch Pack Interface provides an on-screen virtual keyboard. External keyboards and mice can also be connected to the device because it has standard USB 2.0 connectivity.

Despite the massive increase in data traffic, the Middle East and North Africa mobile sector has succeeded in keeping business and social activities across the region running during the pandemic. On the other hand, Covid-19 has highlighted the impact of the digital divide on the nearly 350 million people in the region who are still unable to access mobile internet. In order to eliminate this digital divide, market players are introducing various affordable devices with advanced and enhanced features. In addition, operators’ investments in network infrastructure would underpin these achievements. Despite the economic uncertainty brought by the Covid-19 outbreak, regional operators aim to increase their investments in infrastructure development.

As more affordable devices become available, smartphone use in the region continues to grow, with a significant rise in new internet connections. Several carriers have developed low-cost devices, some with financing options, to encourage mobile broadband usage. The rising infrastructure and use of mobile devices in this region tend to move the ultra-mobile devices market forward.
