Like all chillers, the recirculating chiller systems consist of a compressor, a condenser, a thermostatic expansion valve and an evaporator. A refrigerant gas is injected into a compressor where, under high pressure, it is converted from a compressed gas to a high temperature and a high-pressure gas. It then travels to the compressor, where it is cooled down and condensed into a liquid.
This occurs as the ambient air or water takes the heat of the refrigerant. Next, it passes through the expansion valve, where the pressure and temperature drop below the point of the process fluid. Because of this, the heat is transferred to the fluid, which causes evaporation. Then the cycle begins all over again when the gas returns to the compressor.
