POCs work using the same pressure swing adsorption technique as a home concentrator. A POC's basic setup consists of a miniature air compressor, a cylinder filled with a sieve, a reservoir to equalize pressure, valves, and tubes. The majority of the oxygen generated is given to the patient while a small portion is supplied back into the sieves at significantly lower pressure to flush out any nitrogen residue and get the zeolite ready for the next cycle.
